In Hungary in many respects the first but also in Europe became the New Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium exceptional. This is the first instance that full LED-lighting and hybrid turf are being used in Hungary and the benches aren’t located on the side of the field but in the first row of the stand.
In nearly 350 days before deadline was the New Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium the facility of MTK Budapest built. During the entire investment 86 machines, 4 tower cranes, 13 mobile cranes and approximately 2500 people worked. For the 5014 seat complex 1160 tons reinforced steel and 13000 m3 concrete were used. The roof structure was made of 225 tons steel.
For the 214 pieces LED lights and for the building’s wiring a total of 150 km cable was used. The stadium will also have 535 bicycle parking, 193 parking spaces, athletes, office, press and operational areas, brasserie, Memorial sector and a fan shop. Thanks to the innovative, technical and design solutions the facility stands out among the home stadiums.
The essence of the hybrid lawn is that between the natural turf 20 million plastic fibres were placed. In Europe-besides the MTK stadium- on Anfield Road in Liverpool, in Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester or in Giuseppe Meazza in Miláno can we come across with a playing field of this kind.
The lighting is also special as in Europe there are only three stadiums where the full lighting of the playing field is ensured by LED-lighting. In Europe- besides the MTK stadium- only the Emirates Stadium has these two innovative solutions. In addition, on the building’s south roof a solar system of with a total capacity of 50 KW was installed.
Applying new solutions for the first time is never easy especially if it is made more difficult by a limited implementation area (the proximity of Sport utca, BKV site and the tram line). In the construction industry these circumstances can pose such obstacles that only a few of the large domestic companies can carry out this kind of job in the expected quality and before deadline.
The client and the contractor the ZÁÉV-WHB consortium working as a team successfully passed the obstacles, the requested deadline has been met and like this the MTK Budapest-Sporting C.P. football match can take place on 13th October.
